3D Printed fountain pen: How It's Made.

3D Printed fountain pen: How It's Made.

3D printed fountain pens are pens that have been created using a 3D printer. They can be made from a variety of materials, including plastic, metal, and even wood. The process of creating a 3D printed fountain pen involves designing the pen using computer-aided design (CAD) software, and then using a 3D printer to create the physical pen. The 3D printing process allows for a high level of customization, as the design of the pen can be easily modified to create a unique and personalized writing instrument.

For 3D printed pens we mainly use two technologies: SLS and MJF

Sintered powder 3D printing (SLS), is a type of additive manufacturing process that uses a laser to fuse together small particles of plastic, metal, ceramic, or glass powders into a solid three-dimensional object.

In the SLS process, a bed of powder is spread out on a build platform and the laser is used to trace out the cross-sectional profile of the object being printed. The laser sinters (partially melts) the surface layer of powder, bonding it to the layer below. The build platform is then lowered and another layer of powder is spread on top. The process is repeated until the object is complete.

Sintered powder 3D printing is known for its ability to produce parts with complex geometries and high mechanical properties.

HP MJF (Multi Jet Fusion) is a type of 3D printing technology developed by HP (Hewlett-Packard). It is an industrial-grade 3D printing technology that uses HP's proprietary process to create high-quality parts with excellent mechanical properties and surface finish.

In the HP MJF process, a bed of powder material is spread over a build platform, and a print head moves over the bed, fusing the powder together in the shape of the desired object. The process is repeated layer by layer until the object is complete.

Once the functional shape has been designed, it is printed and finished by hand. The aesthetic aspect derives from the degree of smoothing, varnishing or polishing of each single model.
